The ropes, however, on her wrists and ankles, will not give, and the heavy chair is not one that will allow her to do much of anything other than struggle to free herself before the timer hits zero. The minutes count down: five, four, three, two, one. There is no success in her efforts.

Apparently this countdown will go all the way to zero. Is this really the end?
