In the seventh scene, all four naughty girls are to receive a caning from the strict Mrs. Ganley on the penultimate day. They have all been caught with cigarette's in their bedrooms. This along with the other demerits adds up to a caning. When a certain number of demerits are reached at Strictmoor, a caning is always the punishment.
