Miss Shell's foot is unbearably dirty from the crusty, sweaty odor that has built up in her toe cracks, and Misty's bad behavior is just as unpleasant. And for that, she is justly punished by having her nose pressed into her mistress's foul foot. Without any shame whatsoever, she is escalating Miss Shell's anger, which in turn motivates the mistress to slap her face firmly, causing her cheeks to flush scarlet from the mistress's strong palm strikes. This is the consequence of her impatience with matters over which she should have known she had no control, such as opening presents without first asking permission.
