Georg, on a night of flood, arrives too late at the station to catch the last train. The stationmaster, struck by the young man's distinction and extreme generosity, invites him to spend the night at his house, waiting for the train the next day. Georg and Andrea, the stationmaster's step-daughter, make love, and the next morning Georg leaves and joins his lover Gilda, a married woman, without showing up with Andrea.
